Daniel Caesar's Debut Album is Purely Beautiful

August 28, 2017  /  Taerynn Owens

It seems that Daniel Caesar can do no wrong in the realm of writing love songs. I've been in love with his music since first hearing the vibe that is "Get You", of which he's had me and countless others hooked on ever since.

Freudian is a groove. A vibe. A symphonic capture of love. Words wrapped over melodies of love that could only be described as beautifully as they were in song. In short, this album plainly sounds like the gospel to love--to find the God in the person you love and be completely carried away in euphoria.

It's hard to explain this album without getting poetic. It puts me completely in my feelings but in the best of ways. Freudian is an album to play to start your day, float through your afternoon, or to open your blinds to to feel the sun on your face. An album to put on and dance with your lover. Any situation that encompasses love and beauty, this is the album to queue it to.

The entire album is seamless, but somehow I managed to select favorites. I'm a HUGE fan of H.E.R. so that track immediately blew me away once she came in with her runs. "Hold Me Down" with its interpolation of Kirk Franklin's "Hold Me Now" along with "Neu Roses (Transgessor's Song) harmonic entry battle for my top favorite; I think it's a fair fight.

Whoever this album is about is a Blessed woman (also an emotional favorite song) and I hope we all find a love as beautiful as the album has written it to be.

Indulge in Freudian here.
